Welcome to Prep B’s 11th Blog

On Thursday the Junior School gathered together in the school hall. Our Inquiry focus this term is ‘Healthy Choices, Healthy Me!’ We have been learning about making healthy food choices.

All the children made fruit skewers selecting fruit from a variety of fruit platters. They also made rice paper rolls containing noodles, grated carrot and cucumber.

The children enthusiastically ate their healthy food and there were many comments about how much they enjoyed eating the variety of healthy foods.

What a great start to our new topic. If you have any tips for Prep B about healthy life choices please share these with us.

Welcome to Prep B’s 10th Blog

During Term 3 we were studying blend sounds to help us with our reading. Our second last blend sound for the term was ‘cr’. One of the Prep students James had a wonderful real life ‘cr’ experience to share with us.

James and his mum brought in a crab shell intact in a very good condition to share with the class.

James’ family found the crab while walking along the jetty at Port Welshpool (near Wilson's Promontory).

It was hidden in the sand dunes and grass and must have been there for some time as it was completely empty and very brittle from sitting in the sun.

The children were very excited to share this experience with James and his mum. Here are some photos.

We also had great fun at the end of the term at our whole school footy dress up day. There was a parade of colourful footy colours in the hall and later our whole grade enjoyed a special footy lunch provided by our school canteen.

If you have any memorable school experiences to share Prep B would love to hear from you.

Bye for now,

Book Week

Prep B met up with their buddy class 5/6DR to celebrate Book Week. Miss Davidson read ‘My Two Blankets’ by Freya Blackwood to the children. This book won an award for best ‘Picture Book’.

After discussing the story the younger children worked with their buddy(s) to create felt piece drawings demonstrating their feelings of belonging. The pieces will be pasted onto two felt blankets. The artwork will be displayed in the school library.

Prep B loves working with their buddies.

Did you work with buddies when you were at school?

Junior School Swimming

With great excitement the children in the Junior school commenced swimming lessons at Knox Leisureworks. For some children this was their first swimming lessons. The children have been developing many skills with their wonderful instructors. They even donned their PJ’s to participate in water survival activities. The last day of swimming was a fun day to end the two weeks of swimming lessons. The children are exhausted but have had a wonderful learning experience.

If you have had a great experience learning how to swim please let Prep B know.

Welcome to Prep B’s 7th Blog

Our current maths topic is ‘Patterns’. We have been learning about repeating and growing patterns. We have also been learning that patterns have rules.

Last week Mrs Ryan spent the day teaching Prep B as I was away sick. Mrs Ryan took a fabulous lesson on patterns with the children and took some wonderful photos of their work.

Here are some photos of the children’s patterns.

Do you know different types of patterns you can share with us?

Welcome to Prep B’s 6th Blog

We have had a very busy start to the term. The first week back the Junior School visited Scienceworks. The excursion was the conclusion to our Inquiry topic ‘How do objects move’?’ We went to explore the forces of ‘Push and Pull’ which was our focus of study last term.

The children were so excited to be going on their first big excursion. The 'hands on' experience of being able to explore how objects move was well worthwhile for all the Prep children.

Here are some photos of our adventure.

If you have been to Scienceworks, please let Prep B know what you enjoyed most about  your visit to this incredible venue.

Bye till next time.

Welcome to Prep B’s 5th Blog

We were very lucky to have a visitor from the Catholic Education Office visit our grade to read a story titled ‘Owl Babies’.

There were three readings of the story. The children were totally engaged in the experience.

The children and I have been learning to discuss the text in detail; explore character’s feelings, make connections to the text and develop our vocabulary to include more complex words e.g. frightened, anxious, brave and relieved.

One of the follow up activities was to make owl baby stick puppets. The children in small groups  made up their own puppet show. The shows were performed to the class and filmed.

We would have loved to share the puppet plays, but unfortunately the videos have been unable to be uploaded to the blog.

The children in Prep B would love to learn information about owls. If you can help us please post a comment.

Bye till next time.

Welcome to Prep B’s 4th Blog

We would like to share our learning about our current maths topic 'Chance'.

Here are some of our chance statements from our discussions.

‘You have a chance of winning a running race.’
‘It could rain today.’
‘I could win a game.’
‘Something could be closed e.g. a water slide due to bad weather.’
The students worked in pairs to draw pictures of events that will happen, won’t happen and might happen.

Can you give Prep B some good examples of   chance events? We would love to learn more
about this topic.
Bye till next time.

Welcome  to Mrs Bearder's Sensational Kids Blog
I am very proud of my wonderful Prep class. They are settling in beautifully to our school routine and are eager to learn. They have been very excited to start learning their Magic 100 words and are learning the letters of the alphabet.

Go Prep B!

We have had great fun learning the alphabet with YouTube sensation Geraldine. She is a puppet who always makes us laugh. Geraldine races around her house finding objects that begin with the letter being studied.

Go to YouTube to have fun learning the alphabet with Geraldine the Giraffe.

Bye for now. Please let Prep B know if you think Geraldine the Giraffe is a fun way to learn the alphabet.
